Matthew Jeffries (he, him, his) serves as the director for Campus Climate and Community Building. In this role, he supports system-level change and six campuses in creating and implementing affirming policies and procedures. Additionally, he supports students and channels their energy for activism into tangible, material change. Before this role, he worked in academic advising, new student programs, and residence life. Matthew’s NASPA volunteer experience began at the regional level, where he served as the MultiRacial KC (MRKC) regional representative. This role led to roles as chair of the Region V Scholarship Committee, Region V KC Co-Coordinator, Gender and Sexuality KC regional representative, and MRKC Co-Chair. An active scholar-practitioner, Matthew’s research agenda includes equity work, critical hope, and gender-inclusive housing. Recent research projects include: Understanding the LGBTQ+ Faculty and Staff Experience at a Rural, Land Grant Institution, Understanding How Diverse Students in STEM Experience Their Classes and Labs, and Destabilizing Gender Inclusive Housing: A Feminist Poststructural Discourse Analysis. Matthew earned a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from Ohio University, a Master of Arts in Higher Education and Student Affairs from The Ohio State University and a Ph.D. in Cultural Studies and Social Thought in Education from Washington State University.
