Services Request Timeline
In order to ensure sufficient time to make provisions for appropriate accommodations and auxiliary aid(s), students must request approved accommodations in a timely manner. Below is a list of services and appropriate timelines for most circumstances. If a request is submitted after the relevant deadline, the Access Center will make every reasonable effort to accommodate the request but cannot guarantee that such a request can be met in a timely manner. Accommodations are approved throughout the semester, but are not retroactive. Untimely requests may result in delay, substitutions, or the inability to fulfill the request(s).
Type of Service
|Arranging Accommodations||Incoming students are advised to contact the Access Center 1-2 month prior to their first semester of enrollment to begin the accommodation process. Returning students are encouraged to renew accommodations during the first week of classes or the week prior. Students are required to renew accommodations each semester they wish services.|
|Classroom Access Services:Classroom Relocation, Furniture Requests (tables, chairs, podiums), Lab Assistants||Requests for classroom services are due at least 4 weeks prior to the 1st day of class.|
|Deaf/Hard of Hearing Access Services: Real Time Captioning, ASL Interpreter, Video Captioning||Recurring classroom and multi-day event requests are due at least 5 weeks in advance. Requests for one-time events and meetings are due at least 10 days in advance.|
|Clinicals, Practicums, Externships, Internships, Study Abroad, etc:||Accommodations relevant for non-classroom activities should be discussed as soon as possible with your Access Advisor. The process to evaluate, design and implement accommodations in these settings need to be done well in advance of the start of the fieldwork and preferably before locations are assigned, since accommodations at these sights can involve a multi-department effort.|
|Disability Related Flexible Attendance Agreement||Complete a Flexible Attendance Agreement for each class, with your professor, before the end of the 2nd week of classes.|
|Exam Accommodations||Complete an Alternative Testing Agreement, with your professor, for each class as soon as possible. Schedule non final exams at least 5 business days in advance, finals 10 days. Visit Access Center Testing Center webpage for more info.|
Incoming students are encouraged to request housing accommodations early in the housing application process, by or before May 1st – this will increase the chances that the University will be able to meet requests.
Requests for notetaking services should be requested only for courses where other lecture capture supports are insufficient (recording lectures, access to PPTs, etc). Students are encouraged to consider each class at the start of the semester and request notetaking as needed by the end of the 1st week of classes. Students are encouraged to record lectures while the recruitment process takes place (1-3 weeks).
|Alternative Print Format: Braille, Large Print, E-Text, Digital Audio||
Requests for alternate format materials are due at least 2 weeks prior to the 1st day of class.
